New Smyrna Beach, Florida a city in northeastern Florida, in Volusia County, on the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, 23 km (14 mi) southeast of Daytona Beach. The city is a residential community and a tourist resort. Citrus fruits and vegetables are grown in the vicinity. Founded as New Smyrna about 1803, it was renamed New Smyrna Beach in 1937. Population 16,543 (1990): 20,048 (2000): 22,356 (2005 estimate).
